2007-08 New York Giants

After the overblown Eli/Tiki drama stopped, and Michael Strahan and other players dominating New York headlines, the dust has cleared for the Giants, and finally they can concentrate on some football - if they can. The Giants have had injury problems through the preaseason and into the season. They have also shown a lack of consistency across the board. After a successful previous season, the pressure is there for the inexperienced ones on the roster to perform - in spite of questionmarks all over the field. It will be interesting to see how the Giants sort out their problems in '07- which makes Giants tickets all the more exciting to have.

Previous Seasons

With young quarterback Eli Manning at the helm, 2005-2006 New York Giants tickets delivered a division championship. The Giants will appear in the wild card playoffs with the hope that running back Tiki Barber can continue his regular season success. Barber’s 1,860 yards earned him second place in the National Football League among all rushers, and the young back’s ability to overpower defenses made the Giants the second most productive offensive team in the NFC. However, the team’s defense has not performed at the same level, and fans at Giants Stadium hope that the team’s ability to stop opponents will improve in the postseason.

As one of the oldest franchises in the National Football League, the Giants have been a part of the league since 1925, winning four NFL Championships and two Super Bowls. The team’s early years were marked with numerous appearances among the league’s elite, but the Giants struggled throughout the latter half of the 1960s and the 1970s. Many fans view Bill Parcells as the instrument of the Giants’ most productive period in recent history. The head coach guided the team from 1982 to 1990, leading the way to victories in Super Bowl XXI and Super Bowl XXV. Under Parcells, quarterback Phil Simms enjoyed the greatest amount of passing success in franchise history.

However, the Giants were not recognized solely for their offensive power but rather for an intimidating defense that was led by lineman Lawrence Taylor. While Taylor’s record of 20.5 sacks in a single season was later broken by fellow Giants’ player Michael Strahan, he was elected to the Hall of Fame and considered by many football fans to be one of the greatest defensive players to ever play the game. Taylor played for both Super Bowl Championship teams, winning the league’s MVP award during the 1986 season and making 10 trips to the Pro Bowl.

The Giants have enjoyed moderate success since Parcells’ exit. Dan Reeves coached the team until 1997 but only led the team to the postseason in 1993. Under head coach Jim Fassel, the Giants made another trip to the Super Bowl where the Baltimore Ravens crushed them. Despite Strahan’s continued defensive dominance, the Giants were unable to capitalize on their Super Bowl appearance, and Fassel’s term ended in 2003.

Now, under head coach Tom Coughlin, the Giants hope that Manning will become the prolific leader that his older brother, Peyton, has become for the Indianapolis Colts. With the recent addition of wide receiver Plaxico Burress, Giants football tickets now pay entrance to one of the NFL’s steadily improving passing games. After recent years of inconsistency at the quarterback position, fans at Giants Stadium are beginning to witness another exciting football team.
